In addition, Kentucky is investigating possibilities for locating its newest state park on Herrington Lake.

Both counties offer a wealth of history with over 100 buildings on the Historic Register. The Garrard County Jail Museum and Pleasant Retreat, the home of Governor William Owsley, and The William Whitley House offer glimpses of the past. An abundance of genealogical material is found in the Public Libraries and through cemeteries that date to the late 1700's.
